Ukuu Series: NYC Immersion Trip
January 6, 2025 – January 9, 2025 EST
No location (See event details)
The Barner-McDuffie House is taking our Ukuu “Greatness” program to another level. We’re leveling up in New York City! This immersion trip offers a platform to gain insight into a diverse range of companies mirroring the professional goals of our students. The companies we’ve chosen champion their Black employees through their career cycles, have employee resource groups (think corporate student orgs) and value community work. This opportunity will give students a thorough understanding of how to incorporate their academics into industry while staying culturally authentic. In addition, students will have the opportunity to connect with alumni from companies we visit and participate in culturally stimulating activities.
Immersion Trip Goals
- Expose students to a variety of companies that introduce them to professionals and career opportunities to narrow their focus on specific skills that can benefit them.
- Through culturally stimulating activities, students will develop an understanding of and appreciation for diverse backgrounds, cultivate a sense of pride and unity, and work together to overcome barriers and challenges.
- Through alumni interactions, students will build valuable relationships, which lead to mentorship, guidance and internship opportunities, ultimately helping students achieve their career goals.
Application Deadline: 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024
