Physics Colloquium: “From Black Holes to Quantum Computers and Back”
January 30, 2025 at 3:30pm – 4:45pm EST
Physics Building, 202/204
The Syracuse University Department of Physics is pleased to welcome Alexey Milekhin, Post-Doctoral scholar at the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter at Caltech, for his talk titled, “From black holes to quantum computers and back.”
Alexey Milekhin received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Juan Maldacena. His thesis focused on quantum mechanical systems with gravitational duals. Since then, he has been working at the intersection of quantum gravity, quantum information theory and statistical physics with the goal of understanding the general properties of out-of-equilibrium systems. He currently holds a postdoctoral scholarship at the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter at Caltech.
Abstract: Black holes and quantum computers may appear to be entirely unrelated systems, yet they share surprising and profound connections. In this talk, Milekhin will provide an overview of recent research directions that bridge them together, focusing on low-dimensional holographic systems and advanced quantum information techniques, including the concept of entanglement in time.
