Applying for External Funding, Part 2: Writing for Money
July 1, 2025 at 1:30pm – 2:30pm EDT
Virtual (See event details)
Summer Skill Builders for grad students and postdocs are intended to help you take full advantage of the academic “off season” to reach significant milestones in your program and/or career development. This session is the second of two centered on applying for external fellowships or research/dissertation support awards. Most fellowship and scholarship applications require applicants to write about themselves and their research. Learning how to do so in persuasive and compelling ways is essential for successful funding acquisition. We’ll provide guidance and advice on how to approach the writing process and introduce attendees to writing resources available at Syracuse University. The session is led by Melissa Welshans from the Center for Fellowship & Scholarship Advising (CFSA) and Dan Olson-Bang from the Graduate School.
