Turning Your Seminar Paper or Dissertation Chapter into a Journal Article

July 3, 2025 at 1:30pm2:30pm EDT

Virtual (See event details)

Summer Skill Builders for grad students and postdocs are intended to help you take full advantage of the academic “off season” to reach significant milestones in your program and/or career development. This session in the series focuses on converting a form of academic writing you’ve already done — a seminar paper or dissertation chapter — into one you need for your CV: a publishable journal article. We’ll consider differences in the conventions and purposes of these genres, and what you’ll have to add, cut, or revise to produce a manuscript you’re ready to shop to journals. We’ll also think about which journals to target and how that relates to the revision process. The discussion will be most useful for those in fields where single-author publications are the norm, but all are welcome. The session is led by Glenn Wright, Executive Director of Professional and Career Development with the Graduate School.
