Preparing to Land Your First Industry Job: A Workshop for STEM PhDs

Join SciPhD co-founder Randall Ribaudo, PhD, for a day-long industry job-search workshop for STEM PhD students and postdocs.

Morning Session: The Business of Science and Communications for Scientists (9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

  • Learning the skills and behaviors valued by employers
  • Finding jobs that excite you
  • Analyzing job ads and developing a targeted resume
  • Engaging effectively with industry audiences
  • Using technical literacy and social/emotional intelligence in the job search

Afternoon Session: Applied Networking and Project Management (1:30-5:00 p.m.)

  • Building relationships for personal and business success
  • Gaining a competitive advantage in launching and advancing your career
  • Finding unadvertised positions and getting your resume into the right hands
  • Translating your science into project management language
  • Demonstrating your project management experience to hiring managers

You may register for the morning session only, or for the whole day. Lunch will be provided (12:30-1:30 p.m.).

In addition, workshop attendees are invited to an online VIP Networking Reception on Friday, March 25, 4:00-6:00 p.m. In breakouts, participants can make connections with and gain insights from SciPhD training program alums representing a wide array of industries and positions.

Space is limited, and valuable! While the event is free, registrants who fail to attend or cancel less than two full days in advance may be charged a $25 fee, pending a hold on their bursar accounts.

The SciPhD workshop is co-sponsored by the Graduate School, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, and the Upstate Medical University College of Graduate Studies.
