Roll up your sleeves and get your hands in the dirt! Come enjoy the outdoors while helping us with garden tasks in Pete’s Giving Garden and the Bee Campus USA Garden. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just looking to give back, we welcome all helping hands.
Accessibility:
We have ADA-compliant raised beds for individuals with mobility challenges or those who prefer to garden while standing. Vehicle access is available for those with specific ADA needs. Please note: vehicles must be moved after the passenger is dropped off at the garden.
What We’re Working On:
-
June: Amending soil with compost, planting seedlings and seeds, watering, and weeding.
-
July: Continued planting from seed, harvesting early vegetables and garlic, and adding straw to suppress weeds.
-
August through October: Planting winter crops, weeding, and harvesting fruits and vegetables.
Bee Campus USA Pollinator Gardens:
-
June: Weeding and planting new varieties of native plants.
-
July – October: Continued weeding, deadheading, and seed gathering.
All produce is donated to the campus food pantries operated by Hendricks Chapel and managed by Sustainability Management at the Carriage House, 161 Farm Acre Road.
Partners:
This project is a collaboration between Sustainability Management, the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics Food Studies and Nutrition Program, and the Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry.
The gardens will be closed during inclement weather.
