Barner-McDuffie House Madrid Immersion Trip
March 8, 2025 – March 15, 2025 EST
No location (See event details)
The Barner-McDuffie House is taking our Ukuu “Greatness” program to another level: WE’RE GOING TO MADRID, SPAIN!!
We hope this immersion experience will offer students a comprehensive understanding of how cultural competency aids in their personal, professional and academic paths. We want our students to explore becoming global citizens, aligning their personal, academic and professional aspirations with international work and/or educational opportunities. The selected tours, locations and presentations will explore the rich cultural heritage and identities of the Spanish peoples and their interactions with the Black diaspora in Spain. This opportunity is going to give students a thorough understanding of how to incorporate and textualize their cultures into cultural contexts outside of the U.S., a most valuable skill.
In addition, students will have the opportunity to connect with other study abroad students from New York University and Syracuse University Madrid, discuss international work and education opportunities with Instituto D’Empresa, and get together with Melanin Madrid, a community of BIPOC expats, all engaging in culturally stimulating activities.
