M. Lisa Manning, Ph.D., Director of the BioInspired Institute and Syracuse University, along with Associate Director James Henderson, Ph.D., will host a discussion for the Department of Biology Seminar Series.

The goal of this seminar is to provide an overview of programs and initiatives within BioInspired Syracuse: Institute for Material and Living Systems, identify areas of mutual interest that overlap between the Institute and the Biology department, and facilitate discussion and brainstorming about how the two can work together moving forward. The goal of the BioInspired Institute is to support research excellence and training at the intersection of materials and living systems. A large part of that has been developing and helping to execute cluster hiring of faculty in those topical areas. Other initiatives include a professional development program for STEM postdocs and grad students, working on major instrumentation and center grants and thinking about how to improve access to core facilities, seed funding programs, and more. This seminar will allow biology faculty to learn about these, ask questions, and also suggest new directions for BioInspired that would improve its usefulness for the Department of Biology.
