Newhouse alumna Johanna Garton ’92 is the author of “Edge of the Map,” an adventure story based on the lives of mountaineer Christine Boskoff and her partner, Charlie Fowler.

Garton, a graduate of Newhouse’s broadcast and digital journalism program, holds a law degree from DePaul University College of Law. As an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer, she worked on behalf of refugee survivors of torture at the Heartland Alliance in Chicago. She has served on the Colorado Governor’s Commission on Community Service and taught advocacy and legal issues for nonprofits at Regis University. Several years of living and working in Asia, including time in China with her husband and children, inspired her to write her first book, “Awakening East.”
