Please respect that the discussions in this lecture series are off-the-record, with a no social media policy. If you are not registered for this class and would like to join, please email bwerde@syr.edu for the link.

Two incredibly talented, successful, independent artists—and friends—join us this week, to discuss everything from songwriting, recording and touring to navigating the music business with your authenticity in tact. This will be a very special Rezak lecture: before the world knew them by their artist names, the Bandier Program class of 2021 knew them as classmates and friends. (Check Clairo’s “4Ever” video below for lots of Syracuse scenery, and a featured role for Claud, as well as several other current and former students.) We’re all very excited to welcome them “back” for this virtual conversation—and family reunion.

Claire Cottrill (Clairo) – Artist

Clairo (Claire Cottrill) is a musician and former student of Syracuse University’s Bandier Program. She has toured with Dua Lipa, Khalid and Tame Impala. Last year Clairo released her debut album ‘Immunity.’ Her album made it onto Pitchfork’s list of ’50 Best Albums of 2019’ and her lead single ‘Bags’ was titled Best New Music. She’s currently working on her second album and hopes to release it sometime in 2021.

Claud Mintz – Artist

Claud (fka Toast) is the solo project of Claud Mintz. Standing at 5 feet tall with blue and green hair (hair color subject to change), Claud enjoys late night snacks and going to the movies with their friends. Claud is a former student of Syracuse University’s Bandier Program and in 2019 they released their debut EP inspired by dorm room mac n cheese, dreamy synths and a janky microphone. In the last year you may have caught Claud on tour with The Neighbourhood, girl in red, Bleachers or Girlpool. You may have also caught them bopping around the streets of New York City, usually with a warm beverage in hand. Claud’s debut album is coming in 2021.
