The Aroma of Tacoma: Environmental Justice and Abolition Geographies
Abolition ecologies invite us to think about how to build freedom across relations of land and people. In our present conjuncture, abolition ecologies rely on the work of solidarities amongst communities, rural and urban, Indigenous and settler, across peoples of color and white co-conspirators to come together. This talk seeks to ground these concepts in radical placemaking: the work to close the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) and halt construction on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on Indigenous Puyallup land. Through abolitionist praxis, I show how communities of color can reclaim their freedom dreams where they live, work and play.
