Artist Talk: Intersection of Art and Technology

October 20, 2021 at 7:30pm9:30pm EDT

Falk Complex, 200

This event has already occurred. The information may no longer be valid.

This talk will focus on the intersection between art and technology and a discussion on the subtitles of the digitization of the artistic process. Is there loss of human sensibility in the final product?

The event will be a casual but rich and insightful group discussion between 5 select creatives from a diverse set of artistic mediums. The aim is to gain an understanding of the influence of technology in their respective mediums via an honest grapple with questions meticulously designed to provoke thought on the matter. Themes include, in what way technology usage possibly compromises artistic value and/or authenticity, how the user develops a relationship with their technology and the amount of trust and faith they put in it and how is an artist’s creativity enhanced or diminished by their reliance on technology?

Artists will be given these questions well before the event so as to come prepared with their input and create good dialogue with each other.

It will be an insightful event both from a technical and artistic perspective and will be alluring to a diverse audience including creatives (in the same medium or not), technology enthusiasts, and individuals with an interest in the philosophical underpinnings of different fields of study.
