Bill Blass, one of the most important American fashion designers of the 20th century, is the focus of an exhibition designed by Professors Jeffrey Mayer and Kirsten Schoonmaker. On view in the gallery are over 20 original designs by Blass dating from 1982 to 1999.

The featured garments are from the Sue Ann Genet Costume collection, found in the School of Design’s fashion design program. They highlight two facets of Blass’s design brilliance: his love of glittering Hollywood elegance and his menswear-inspired women’s suiting. They were assembled by, and are now on permanent loan to the Sue Ann Genet Costume Collection, from the personal collection of Mayer.

The exhibition is open Monday-Friday, noon-5 p.m. A gallery talk by Mayer will be held on Friday, October 14, 3-4 p.m.

This event was published on October 5, 2022.
