About Intramural Broomball
Broomball is an ice sport very similar to hockey in its rules, but also incorporates some soccer strategies. The game is played on roughed-up ice and players play in broomball-specific shoes (provided) or clean sneakers. Players pass, dribble/stickhandle and shoot the ball past the goalkeeper into an indoor soccer-sized goal.
No skates or skating ability is required as players play in provided broomball shoes or clean sneakers.
Schedule
Regular season begins Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022. Games are on Wednesday nights starting at 10:30 p.m.
Uniform and Gear Requirements
At a minimum, teams must wear matching colors. However, we encourage all teams to secure a matching set of jerseys or T-shirts.
Sticks, broomball shoes and helmets are provided. Players are welcome to wear their own helmet (with a full cage or face mask) and their own shoes (clean sneakers or broomball shoes only). Gloves, though not provided, are highly recommended. Elbow pads and shin guards are also recommended.
Game Format
Syracuse University Intramural Broomball games are primarily played on 1/2 ice and consist of two 15-minute periods. Teams typically play two games every game night.
