A screening of the film “The Picture Taker,” a film by Phil Bertelsen, followed by Q&A with producer/director Phil Bertelsen, producer/lead researcher Lise Yasui and photographer Eric Meola. Bruce Strong, The Alexia Endowed Chair, will lead the evening’s events and associate professor Milton Santiago will moderate the discussion.
This movie follows closely the life of Ernest Withers, an African American photographer, soldier, policeman and family man who lived during the 1960s. Withers was an established photographer who captured the struggle of American civil rights. However, following Withers’ death, more was revealed as the world discovered his secret work with the FBI.
“The Picture Taker” captures the complexity of the American saga during a time that was anything from black and white.
Prior to the screening, please join us for coffee and desserts in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium lobby at 6:15 p.m.
