This is a six-week series focusing on understanding Islam. It will cover the fundamentals of Islam, the diversity of its followers, understanding of the five daily prayers and the importance of their accommodation for practicing Muslims, Ramadan observance and accommodations, and Islamic holidays. The last session will offer a guided visit to a Syracuse mosque. The series will help faculty, staff, the broader public, and students better understand Islam and Muslims. It will also enable administrators and faculty to accommodate better their Muslim students. The series is also suitable for Muslim students to refresh their knowledge about Islam and gain additional insights about it through assigned readings and learn more about their Muslim peers who may have different backgrounds and ways of practicing Islam. All participants who meet the expected requirements will be awarded a certificate of completion at the end of the series.
