CACI Movie Night: “White Sun of the Desert” (1969)

The Moynihan Institute’s Central Asia and the Caucasus Initiative will be screening “White Sun of the Desert” (1969).

The 1969 film by director Vladimir Motyl and cameraman Eduard Rozovsky. The film takes place after the end of the Civil War. The main character, a Red Army soldier, fighter Sukhov, returns to Samara through the desert in Central Asia, where gangs of Basmachi are still operating. On his way home, Sukhov encounters the gangs and tries to save the women from Abdullah’s harem.
