The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to welcome Dr. Ralph Jimenez, a Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Abstract:

“Photophysical Engineering of Fluorescent Proteins with Physical Chemistry Strategies”

Fluorescent proteins (FPs) have not only become ubiquitous tools for biological research, but they are also intriguing molecular systems for study with a wide range of experimental and theoretical tools. I will highlight connections between the engineering of improved FPs and basic ideas from physical chemistry that have driven our design of brighter red FPs such as FusionRed-MQV and mCherryXL using fluorescence lifetime flow cytometry.
