The Moynihan Institute’s Middle Eastern Studies Program will host Mehrzad Boroujerdi (Missouri University of Science and Technology) and Raz Zimmt (Institute for National Security Studies) for a virtual panel discussion.

The enduring proxy warfare between Israel and Iran has now evolved into a direct military conflict. This panel of experts will discuss the domestic and international political dimensions of the escalating tensions between the two countries.

Mehrzad Boroujerdi
Vice Provost and Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education
Missouri University of Science and Technology
Mehrzad Boroujerdi is vice provost and dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Previously, he was a professor of government and international affairs and director of the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech, professor of political science at Syracuse University, and president of the Association for Iranian Studies.
Raz Zimmt
Senior Researcher

Institute for National Security Studies (INSS)

Raz Zimmt is a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS). He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern history from Tel Aviv University. He is also a research fellow at the Alliance Center for Iranian Studies at Tel Aviv University and a veteran Iran watcher in the Israeli Defense Forces. His main research interests are politics, foreign relations, and society in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
