The Department of Philosophy is pleased to welcome Dr. Amandine Catala (UQAM). Dr. Catala will deliver a talk for the Syracuse Chapter of Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) entitled: “Neurodiversity and Epistemic Injustice in Academia.”

Abstract:

In this talk, I begin by introducing the notions of neuronormativity, neuroableism and neurotypical ignorance. I then identify various ways in which common academic structures, practices, habits and expectations, including in philosophy, produce several types of epistemic injustice in both interactional and institutional forms for neurodivergent people. Finally, I close by considering possible avenues toward greater neuroinclusion.
