Music and song are often called the soul of the people. Join the Ukrainian Culture and Conversation table to discover the Ukrainian soul through its music. We will talk about the bandura and the trembita (Ukrainian mountain horn), a phenomenon of the Kobzar tradition, Cossack march, and songs of the Ukrainian Sich riflemen. Additionally, we will consider Mykola Leontovych’s “Shchedryk” (Carol of the Bells) and Volodymyr Ivasyuk’s “Chervona Ruta” (Red Ruta), the music of Maidan and modern Russian-Ukrainian war. Lastly, we will discuss song as a weapon and a shield, a source of strength, and a message to the world.

This event will be hosted by Tetiana Hranchak, visiting assistant teaching professor, with support from the SU Ukrainian Club.
