The work of Kirstin Dunlap and Emma Schwartz, The Space Within You and Me touches the boundaries of their intimate and expansive observations of the self in our universe. They explore how interconnected we are with those around us and the unexplainable expanse of the unknown. Dunlap explores this process through the meditative process of printmaking and papermaking. She creates representational landscapes of her body and space to show how we operate through various macro and micro levels with everything around us. Schwartz explores these ideas through oil painting. She is focusing on the impact of interpersonal interactions of her past and their effect on the present. Her personal experience of unlearning the shame she was taught to feel about her desires is where this journey starts.

Kirstin Dunlap is a print-centered artist from Chicago where she also completed her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently she is pursuing her MFA degree in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.

Emma Schwartz is from Lincoln, Nebraska. She received a BFA in Drawing and Illustration from Herron School of Art + Design. Currently, she is an MFA Candidate at Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.
