JCM Faculty Ensemble Performs at Syracuse Jazz Fest

June 29, 2024 at 4:00pm5:15pm EDT

Clinton Square (161 Genesee Street)

The ensemble is comprised of members of the Setnor School of Music jazz and commercial music faculty. This dynamic group comes from many areas of the jazz and commercial music world, and the performers have worked with international artists, including Christian McBride, Lewis Nash, Maynard Ferguson, Michael Brecker, Ryanito, Joe Lovano, and Jimmy Heath.

The ensemble is under the musical direction of vocalist Marianne Solivan, who has garnered a worldwide reputation as a passionate, hard swinging, and nuanced singer deeply connected to the tradition, her Latin roots, and a modern jazz aesthetic.  Alongside her will be pianist Timothy Ogunbiyi, bassist Tim Norton, guitarist Rick Balestra, percussionist Josh Dekaney, and alto saxophonist Michael Dubaniewicz performing repertoire from Solivan’s latest release, which feature original arrangements of Mal Waldron, Bill Evans, Randy Weston, and Latin compositions.

Syracuse Jazz Fest is the largest free jazz festival in the Northeast. This year, the festival spans from June 26-30 in venues throughout Syracuse and will feature great headliners along with an incredible roster of artists. Setnor School of Music faculty are excited to be part of this amazing line up!
