Morgan Harper Nichols is a writer and artist who spent years navigating trials and uncertainties, not discovering her autistic and ADHD identity until her early 30s, when she was diagnosed at age 31. This revelation was a pivotal moment that helped her see the imaginative paths that led her to where she is today. With an Instagram following of more than 2 million, Morgan’s work as an artist and writer can be found in a variety of places from Target to Barnes & Noble, and in several books, including her bestselling All Along You Were Blooming. Now, as she nears the completion of an MFA in Interdisciplinary Media Arts and prepares to begin a PhD program in fall 2024, Morgan shares the critical role of imagination in moving through various aspects of life, from school, to career, to being a parent, being neurodivergent, and more. Her story is a testament to the power of imaginative thinking in overcoming obstacles and discovering one’s path.

In this talk, Morgan will discuss how to use imagination in everyday life to tackle questions many college students find themselves asking: How do I deal with academic pressure? What if I don’t know what I want to do in the future? How do I find community and build lasting relationships? How do I challenge myself while also being gentle with myself, being mindful of mental health, responsibilities, and the many other facets of life?

Through her insights, Morgan addresses common assumptions about imagination such as that it’s just for artists, it’s a distraction, or it’s not a practical solution for the real-world. She demonstrates instead that imagination is a vital tool for everyone, capable of transforming challenges into opportunities for growth, connection, and discovery.

Attendees will leave not only inspired by Morgan’s journey but also equipped with practical advice on using their own imaginative thinking to navigate the many stresses of daily life, the search for identity and purpose, and the anxiety of future planning. Attendees will learn how to use imagination as a bridge to understanding themselves better, connecting with others, and exploring new pathways in life that are filled with meaning and possibility.
